Update - 7(March 22, 2008)

Jack had the first and maybe only surgery on his left leg this past Wednesday. The femur was notched, as was the case with the right leg but also 3/8" was removed. This shortening will allow the tendons to stretch over his hock and eliminate the need for tendon surgery. The patella capsule was also centered in a new notch and everything sutured in place. All went well.Prior to this he was walking on his right leg in a normal fashion with a temporary hock splint in place. The hips and spine have moved dramatically back to a normal position.Jack is still the sweetheart of the clinic being Jack O'Shaughnessey on St. Patrick's Day and Jackie Chan after his daring escape into the alarm system a few weeks back.Tentative return home is scheduled for next weekend.

As a side note, we are looking for a good home for Nicholas, the dad. He was not too receptive to Jack's return to home and we want to avoid any alpha dog issues with Jack as he recovers. Jack is the priority now and this is a hard decision. Nicholas is now neutered and a little over 2 years. He has the lighter, sleeker configuration of the Canadian Pyrenees. A face-licker, a cat lover and want-to-be lap dog.

Thank you all again.

Update - 6 (March 16, '08)

Jack is still staying as a guest at the Stonecliff Animal Clinic. He has had what we think is the final surgery on his right leg and has a small and temporary splint on the hock. The hump in his spine has dropped down and his entire pelvis has begun to turn back to the normal position - this because he now has a good rear leg to put his body weight onto.

He is still endearing himself to drs. and staff at the clinic even though he did take a walk the other night and set off the alarm system. Dr. Kelly found him hiding under a sofa when he went down at 2AM to check on the alarm. - Dave

Update - 5 (Feb 9, '08)

Jack is doing very well. He puts more weight on his better leg each day. Last week he had his first post-op vet visit. The surgery all looks good and healing is right on track. The patella was a little looser than the vet would have liked but that can be adjusted with a single surgical suture while he has the next surgery.

And, speaking of, the vet feels we can move the next surgery up into February. So instead of staying with a dog sitter, he will go into the hospital while I am at SPA Knit and Spin, Feb 22-24. I will pick him up when I return home and then have the entire week after with him as we are on school holiday - perfect.

He is still on daily Metacam dosage and he is very happy to take it. We allow him to roughhouse more now inside with his litter mate, Boudicca and brother and sister have a great time. Eventually he will be bigger than her as he is built more like his mother (Nimue) and she like her dad (Nicholas).

One last push

Please help me 'rally' $$ support for Jack's second round of surgery! The second round involves his 'bad leg' so this upcoming one would be more extensive than the first surgery he had. Please send him strong, positive, happy, healing recovery energy!

We're in our last leg of this fundraising and the raffles will be next Fri, the day after Valentine's. I'm inclined to give this project one last push, much can happen in a few days, so, this is my offer:
With very 'Word of Blog' which Jack's supporters blog about, I'll put in one more prize for the raffles. More donors gets a prize, Whippee!! One prize per blog. 50 max. Make it loud! :) Please email me at fortheloveofjack at yahoo dot com and provide me with a link to your blog and i'd be happy to acknowledge the party who solicited one more fibery goodness for the donors.

Hopefully that'll bring in more monetary support for Jack's second surgery. He is doing all the hard work, whatever $$ we can ease off his people, i'm sure will make him a happy, happy furry being.

Thanx much, all ya kind people. I know so many of you have gone out of your way and made sacrifices to benefit Jack.

'See' ya soon!

Update 4 - (Jan 15, '08)

We took out Jack's stitches which made him very happy. He has been using his new leg independently of the other rear leg - a good sign. - Dave Paul, The Merlin Tree. Mon, Jan 15, 2008.

Angels and Word of blog

The flow of donations, wishes and heart and love have started to trickle in again in these couple of days and i know there must be angels out there who are helping to spread the word about Jack's needs. I thank you here on the blog if i already have not done so personally or if i have not known who you are - Thank you,...very much.

Some donations came in from kitties and their person, some came in from puppies and their person. Some came in from farmers and their critters. Some came in from generous hearts who have their own special needs furry ones. Some came in simply from yarn and fiber loving folks who wants to help.

Thank you all, for whatever form of help and support you're extending to Jack. You're all his Angels.
